Stress could also delay your period. Stress can throw off your hormones and even affect the part of your brain responsible for regulating your period, your hypothalamus. Stress can cause weight gain or loss and illness-causing your cycle to be off.
Weight could also be a factor in your late period. A low body weight or being overweight can throw your cycle off due to hormone. Women who we 10% below what doctors say is a normal body-weight for your height can throw your hormones off and stop ovulation causing a late or missing period. Women who are overweight might change their diet and add some exercise to lose weight to have their period return.
Birth control could also make your period late. Birth control contains estrogen and progestin causing your body to stop ovulating and making your period late or stop altogether. After stopping any form of birth control it could take up to 6 months to get your period regular again.
